Summary
There is just something so charming and special about having a jam session with someone you don’t know. The only thing the two girls shared between each other was their obvious love for music, and whether they realized it or not, that immediately made them have a bond.

Summary
Pearl and Marina knew each other better than they knew the back of their own hand. The love and care they held for one another was so strong and passionate that not even the might of the Great Zapfish could ever tear them apart.

Summary
Marina is having the best day of her life, and Pearl is trying very hard not to focus on the sensation of the ring pressed into the skin of her chest, held in place by the tightness of her costume and the chain around her neck. The crowd pulses in time with the drums and screams their guts out as Pearl pushes on through her rap beats, and they bring it home like always—and no one knows just how hard Pearl knocked herself into the past.
All except Marina, who grabs her hand as the stage descends and the smoke clears. They have exactly ten seconds until they’re whisked into a golf cart and rushed to the next stage, and Marina doesn’t waste them. She pulls Pearl close, presses her face into the top of her sweaty head, heaving for breath herself, and mumbles, “I can’t wait to perform with you like that for the rest of my life.”
And Pearl’s hearts seize and it’s all she can do to stop herself from proposing right there.

Summary
There’s gotta be some grand cosmic lesson in the fact that Pearl doesn’t know how to balance without Marina. She can sense it, the same way she can sense when Marina’s looking at her sideways, in that way that makes Pearl want to climb into her chest and love her from the inside out. But the universe will have to wait. First, Pearl has to learn how to balance on two wheels by herself.
Pearl can't bike without training wheels; Marina is determined to teach her.

Summary
Pearl likes it when things are tender and quiet, when she can imagine that it'll be easy when she eventually tells Marina about how twisted up and warm she gets around her. Until then, Pearl likes to pretend. But, when a brand deal with Mr. Grizz goes south, Pearl must confront things directly.

Summary
“Marina, I’m not going back to sleep until you open the door.”
“Why not?” It was a childish answer, it came out like a whine from behind the door. A plea. Pearl felt this heavy, sour hurt settle in the pit of her stomach; she hated this just as much as Marina did.
(alternatively: on nights like this, it's pearl's turn to be the adult)
