Written for Whumpril 2023 Day 23: Smoke | Bloodstains | Sharing Clothes
"It's hard to tell whether the acrid taste on her tongue is a product of the curl of despair running restless in her stomach, or the smoke that has now quickly consumed the room. It chokes her all the same, and as she curls over, knees pressed against broken wood and glass, coughing fruitlessly against toxic plumes, she can't help but feel that this ending, of all endings, is fitting. She always knew the fire would catch up to her. Years of dancing around it, fearing it, controlling it culminated in this one last inferno. Unfair and just, all at once.
Healthy, fearsome cracks and the creaks and groans of a slowly collapsing building were the only sounds to accompany her demise. A symphony of dustruction, though not exactly a score one would think they'd die by, feels all too suited as well. Speaking volumes without words, echoing the life she lived; a life of hatred, spite and vitriolic anger.
But was it?
Begs the question, where did she truly begin? Are ashes truly her foundation?"
OR: Mouse (OC) ponders her regrets, and the inevitability of her own demise.

Written for Whumpril Day 11:
Nightmares | Bedside Vigil | "I'm right here.""Despite the pain tearing him apart, both inside and out, he held onto his confused anger, his disbelief. Rorke, who held himself so high, was now something he'd once hated. Was it too far to call him a hypocrite? Clearly, they'd done something to him, morphed him into a monster (the one he was always capable of becoming) but Ajax couldn't help but feel angered by it. Betrayed. They trusted him. Believed in him.
And they left him to die.
No. They looked for him for weeks. They'd searched high and low for him. Elias would have turned the whole world upside down looking for him, and Ajax would have followed suit.
But they didn't. Rorke (and his own mind) reminded him coldly. And so, there he was. Holding onto threads of hope. Hope that his team - his family - knew where he was. Hope that they'd get there in time."
OR: Ajax survives the events of Struck Down; he and Keegan find comfort in each other.

Written for Whumpril 2023 Day 2's Prompts of Stress, Insomnia and "Get some rest."
"But in times like this (times like right now, where he's sat up in bed, chewing at his own nails, praying to whatever the fuck is out there that he doesn't wake up Kick, blissfully asleep beside him) the thoughts aren't just incomprehensible noise. No. They all swirl back around to the same thing, discordant shrieks and wails crackling inside his head, sending ripples of pure discomfort to stretch across his skin- his nerves - under one unified point of interest.
The eye of the storm, the source of it all, is his brother.
His brother, who's out there somewhere. Alone. At the mercy of a merciless enemy.
Hesh wonders if their heads are just as loud as each other."
OR. Hesh struggles to sleep as the Ghosts search for Logan. Kick provides a little comfort.

Title is from No Nurture by A Lot Like Birds
A prompt fill for Whumpuary! Hypothermia + "Stay with me"
Keegan ends up hypothermic and he goes through the five stages of grief from being cared for.
"There’s something almost funny about the way Rorke handles him. Almost like he’s trying to be gentle, though Keegan’s not sure he’d ever quite attribute such a word to Rorke of all people. It’s made quickly unfunny, however, when Rorke's jacket is gingerly shoved onto him, as well as the hat he was wearing. He was wearing his captain's jacket and beanie. Because he was beaten out by the weather.
At this rate he couldn't tell if the embarrassment or the bone-deep chill was more exhausting."
