    Sherlock and Watson go to Virginia to help the FBI, they go there to investigate however will has to go to the hospital because of his encephalitis, that hospital just so happens to be where House works. (Pretend that the hospital is in Virginia and not New Jersey :P) Then somehow John ends up working at PPTH.
