Then he raises the hand he’s holding up to his face, pressed to his lips and nothing more, not even a kissy sound or anything. Just a pressure and a warmth, then her hand is lowered, and he smiles with a reassuring, “There. All better.”
That feeling gets bigger, spilling out like her drink, all warm and thick and terribly sweet like syrup. It works its way into her muscles and bones, making her feel slow and heavy in a way she’s never felt in the morning. Mornings were meant to be sparked alive, to embrace the rising sun, to be up and active and free. Here, with his hand holding hers, she feels anchored, like no matter what comes her way, nothing will manage to sweep her away from this moment. Nothing will take her away from him.
She’s giggling, quite suddenly and probably sounding absolutely bonkers, which is normal enough for her.
