Summary
The Phoenix symbolizes renewal, rebirth, and resurrection, emerging from the ashes of its own fiery death to be reborn anew.
This is what Robert Robertson the Third tried to see himself as: A Phoenix. After losing his identity and job as Mecha-Man, he has a chance to reemerge as Dispatcher of the notorious Z-Team, a group of dangerous criminals given a shot at being heroes.
And, while everyone else regards the Z-Team as a dumpster fire, a nuclear bomb just waiting to be set off, Robert sees something else—he sees pain, understanding, and above all, an intent to be better. He sees people who had always drawn the short stick, who bet on losing cards, and who were always regarded as less.
What Robert sees... is a group of Phoenixes.
And he'll be damned if he won't stick by every one of them, regardless of what anyone else thinks.
tldr:
Robert is highly emotionally aware and fiercely protective, refusing to give up on anyone in the Z-team, even when the stakes are high and tension is rising. They're all a bunch of fuckin' idiots, as Chase would say, but they're undoubtedly his idiots, through and through. Summary
The smell of blood permeated the air strongly, stinging his sensitive nose with its stench. His muscles, more muscles than he could have ever imagined on himself, pulsed with unimaginable strength; each beat of his heart sending a rush of blood through his body so powerful it almost made him sway on his feet. A chill brushed against his back, from the draft created by the massive crater surrounding him and the fallen Gojo Satoru at his feet.
He couldn’t pin any sort of memory of where he was, what he was doing, or what was going on right before the present time, right then. He couldn’t recall any vivid memories of the people he knew, and the details of his former life, or what on earth could have led up to this abrupt body swap.
A few seconds ago, he was not Toji.
But now, standing over the mangled “corpse” of Gojo Satoru, somehow, he was.

“Do you remember this gun, Robert?” Shroud asked, his tone conversational as he approached, drawing the revolver and leveling it in Robert’s direction. “Do you remember me telling you about the last bullet? Look.”
He swung the cylinder out. Five empty chambers. And one, holding a single, gleaming brass cartridge.
“There it is. I kept this because I knew this would happen. Back then, it was just a possibility, a set of numbers. Now?” He snapped the cylinder shut with a sharp click. “Now it's just facts. I don’t deal in chances anymore, Robert. I deal in outcomes.”
He gave the cylinder a slow, deliberate spin. The sound was a death rattle in the quiet room. When it stopped, he pressed the cold, unforgiving muzzle hard against Robert’s temple.
“So tell me, Robert,” Shroud whispered, the words slithering into his ear. “What do you think your odds are now?”
