Summary
Everyone knows the story of the Red and Blue Oni and how the Blue Oni made himself into a monster so that his friend could find happiness amongst the humans who shunned him. But in this story, the Blue Oni never left a letter with well wishes. He disappeared on a journey alone, leaving the Red Oni to wonder where he’d gone.
After five years, Tomoshibi Arajin has returned to his hometown with a mission: keep his head down and his nose clean, finish out his high school years with high marks, and enter a good college so he'd never have to see this hellhole again. Easier said than done when the one person he hoped to never cross paths with again attends his school.
Oh, and there's the matter of the Majin living in his head too.

Summary
The Mechaman suit, with the Astral Pulse by extension, was always conscious. It's just been sitting dormant, content at recording and collecting data from its pilots silently as a passive tool.
But by the third generation of its pilots... it foresees that pilot Blue will not last long alone, and it doesn't like that.
Or: The suit is 'alive'. There's some bullshit allegory here somewhere about keeping control, but Robert's more focused on being a protector and not letting the machine overtake his job.
