Summary
Lucy takes a step back, then pauses. “Do you ever leave before dark?”
His eyes lift to hers, sharp and unreadable. “Usually not.”
“Why not?”
He shrugs. “Fewer interruptions.”
“Right.” She gives a small laugh. “You know, I’m starting to think my joke during the interview wasn’t such a joke. Maybe you are a vampire.”
Tim doesn’t laugh.
For a second, she thinks he didn’t hear. But he had; his eyes flicker, quick, like a warning light.
“I mean,” she adds hastily, “you never eat, you never go outside, you don’t like sunlight—it’s kinda a pattern.”
He holds her gaze for a moment longer, then says simply, “Good night, Lucy.”
She feels heat climb up her neck. “Good night.”

Summary
Lucy sets her phone up to record and gets the decorations centered in her frame. She smiles at Tim who holds a knife up. “We need two knives!” Tim grabs another knife from the butcher block and sets it on the counter on either side of the cake.
Lucy smiles and picks up her knife and helps Tim like his knife up with hers so they get a perfect slice.
“So how do we do this?” he asks nervously. Lucy smiles and giggles just cut down but close your eyes! It’s a surprise!” Tim chuckles and smiles “Ok Ok.”
Tim closes his eyes first then Lucy does. They cut into the cake slowly until they hit the cardboard underneath the cake. “Okay on three open your eyes!” Lucy licks her lips before counting down slowly. “1...2…3..!”
