Eugene pressed his hands over his ears, knowing full well that it would do nothing to drown out the sounds around him.
He shut his eyes and prayed for the pain to stop. Not for himself, but for everyone out in that cold, dead forest.
Then all at once the noises were silenced, and Eugene was wrapped in warmth.
