Elain was hot. Drops of sweat slid down her back, making her skin sticky, her breathing heavy and her nerves taut and ready to explode. That golden thread inside her chest was tense whenever he was near, but in the past days, given their forced proximity, the tugging against her ribs had become unbearable.

His words hurt a little, but she deserved it, so she took the pain and tried to mask her expression. "Well, so what would it make us?"
"Nothing more than what we are now. Just mates who can barely stand each others" he smirked. "With some… benefits".
"Mates", she echoed.
He nodded.
"With… benefits?"

Summary
I have a lot of thoughts about Jack's POV of AliHazelwood's new brilliant story. I read it back to front two times in a row like the crazy person I am.
This first scene (of maybe several, we will see if anyone feels like reading it first *shrugs*) is set at a bar, where Jack after a couple of beers tells George about his budding feelings for his brother's girlfriend, Elsie. It is inspired by Georges: "I have heard so much about you" when she first met Elsie. I am all about the pining in that statement.Very big disclaimer, though I work in academia as a postdoc my field is more along the lines of Adam Carlsen's. I barely survived my physics requirement at uni (only with help from my brilliant sister, who is in fact a physicist - she even works with crystals, pretty sure they are solid though).
Also, I have no beta reviewers, please excuse my non-native mistakes, autocorrect and typos (was written on my phone at 5 in the morning).All characters etc. belongs to Ali Hazelwood <3 (Thank you for creating them, I loved it)
