Summary
I've somehow ended up in another world (just the soul though). Memories are a bit hazy, I may have an imaginary friend, and I'm definitely suppressing some deep internalized trauma. But hey, I've got some cool new magic powers. If only I can figure out a way back to my original world so my parents stop wasting money on my comatose body's medical fees. Can I return before they go bankrupt? Is my degree completely worthless? Is my soul-trip isn't the result of some larger plot at play?
Nah, surely not.
(This is a fanfiction based off of the He Who Fights with Monsters series by Shirtaloon. And definitely a self-insert. Some internal magic theory may not be accurate. This is set in a different world but with similar concepts, since making a new world map, month/week/day terminology is a pain.)

“Hey, Lan Zhan...” Wei Wuxian unfolds his leg and gives his foot a playful kick. “I told you to think about it! This means I’d be here for a long time, taking up your time, your space, your peace. And I can’t pay you! I have nothing of worth to give. It isn’t as simple as-”
“I’ll do it,” he says again, more forcefully this time. “You don’t have to give me anything.”
Wei Wuxian looks away, hiding a small smile. Doesn’t he know Lan Wangji would do anything for him, by now? Doesn’t he understand that he holds Lan Wangji’s life in his hands?

Post-CQL Wei Wuxian comes back to the Cloud Recesses to ask for Lan Wangji's help with his new golden core.
Together, they learn how to communicate, how to ask for things, and how to touch each other.Their relationship develops in between quiet dinners in the Jingshi, meditation sessions, core training and a lot of Lan Juniors speculation on whether or not they're actually together yet.

Summary
The melody gets a little clearer when he breaks out of the trees, and Jingyi changes course with certainty, barreling down the back hill and through the Cloud Recesses, dodging scandalized disciples left and right. He throws open the doors to the Receiving Hall without announcement and bows nearly double, eyes on the floor instead of on the shocked faces of the Mei delegation and the impenetrable gaze of the Chief Cultivator.
"Forgive this disciple," Jingyi shouts, because he's going to get punished for rule breaking regardless. "From the back hill, Hanguang-jun, there is a song in the wind!"
Lan Jingyi comes of age.

Over the seasons, Lan Qiren slowly pieces back together his relationship with Wangji and learns to like Wei Wuxian in the process.
(“Will you rejoin your sect?” As soon as the words leave his mouth, Lan Qiren regrets his wording.
He is not surprised when Wangji’s eyes narrow, flashing with offence. “There is no need to rejoin what one has never left. I did not turn my back on my sect. My sect turned their backs on me.”)
