Summary
No one knows what happened to the humans.
But when they left, they blessed all animalkind with their wisdom. Now, mice have built upon the giants' designs, living in communities among the cottages and gardens, and adopting trade and commerce. And insects, minds too simple for sentience, have instead been imbued with magic. Mages are soon trained to tame them, to use their magic for their own.
One such mouse, Petalnose, hopes to one day make the rank of Huskmage. But while training with her pillbug, Bean, and her friend, Summersong, they happen across a mysterious meeting of the Huskmages.
What are they planning? What really happened to the giants? Will Petals muster the courage to confess to Summer of her feelings, or will their adventure prove too dangerous to give her the chance?
One thing Petals knows is certain; The fields beyond Whitewall grow more wild than anything they could ever imagine.
