So now she dares something to come this time, like it would make her feel better if it did. Narrowing her eyes for a brief moment, Lottie waits.
Nothing shows up. Not in Lottie’s peripheral, or her direct line of sight, or out the window, or anywhere. She takes a small step back and rubs her eyes until her vision goes fuzzy and green at the edges. She lets out the deep breath she was holding in. Of course nothing showed up, she stupidly thinks to herself—she knew in the back of her head that nothing would.
But still. Some part of her wishes she did see something, maybe to prove to herself that she was never as crazy as everyone believed she was.
(But Lottie isn’t too sure about that herself.)
