His head snapped up, finally snapping out of his bloodied stupor as he stared wide eyed at the answering machine.
"Bryan, are you there? It's me — god I tried your cell so many times —" Leon's voice cracked between pants. "Something happened at the gas station, I-I stopped the fill up and there was no one there and then they — shit — there were so many of them all of a sudden and now we're in the city and it's a wreck — just listen to me okay? I need you to listen."
All of a sudden his voice became steady and firm, Bryan could practically picture the furrow in his brow. "I can't explain it fully over message but I need you to turn around. Wherever you are, stop there, don't come any further."
Bryan gulped down the threat of bile in his throat.
"Don't come to Raccoon City."

“You know I can't.”And why not, he repeated, why can't he. His grip tightened, body pressing further against the other—christ’s sake, what could possibly prevent him from seeing him again? Feeling the other man’s grip begin to loosen, Leon's whole body stiffened.
“Please.” He pleaded this time, “Just tell me, why?”
“Leon…”
“I want to know.”
“I just can’t…not after everything.”
