Summary
“What’re you starin’ at, eh?” He says, suddenly more distinct, and Kieran looks away chastened. He didn’t know Macguire could see him staring. He barely even knew he was staring. “No, come on now. Why’re you… you got a problem?”
“Not a problem,” he says smoothly, easily. He’s usually good at talking drunk men out of fights, but that was before all the whiskey. He goes to say something else, something calming, but he forgets which words to use so nothing at all comes out. Then he tries to busy himself with his drink again, but his glass is still empty. So he stays staring. And Macguire keeps staring back.
“You want’a fuckin’ lamping?”
“No.” Kieran answers dumbly.
“Too bad.” Macguire says, and lunges. It's the tail end of a stormy May in 1898, and Kieran Duffy is the only O'Driscoll to walk out of a disaster of a score in West Elizabeth. He wanders into the Blackwater Saloon and Bar and finds a red-headed irishman staring back at him. Sean wants a partner to take robbing whilst he searches for his gang, and Kieran wants to do anything that will delay him from going back to find Colm. As the summer progresses, things wind up getting better- or a whole lot worse, depending on how you're looking at it.

Summary
Joel broaches the topic of Ellie going down to the clinic once and she spends the next two days ignoring him, because going to the clinic wouldn’t just mean telling people, it would mean acknowledge that it had happened at all, and Ellie had decided pretty steadfastly that she wasn’t going to be doing that ever. It had happened, it was over, and now she never had to think about it again.
Her ignoring it forever plan hit a snag in the third week of being back in Jackson, when her UTI that she had named Fred to try and find something amusing about the fact that she was still dealing with that shit almost two months on, decided to extend beyond her nether regions and make her fucking boobs all gross and weird.
