Dull rays of sunlight break through the recesses between the branches of the pollard willows.
Damp moss caresses Guido's soles.
The peat bounces with every step he takes.
If he stands on it for too long, water leaks through the vegetation layer of the peat-heap and swallow up his feet with cold tongues.- Language:

Het water is koud, zo vroeg in de ochtend.
Doffe zonnestralen breken door de uitsparingen tussen de takken van de knotwilgen.
Vochtig moss streelt Guido’s voetzolen.
Met elke stap die hij zet, veert het veen mee.
Als hij te lang blijft staan lekt het water door de vegetatielaag van de kragge heen en zwelgt het zijn voeten op met koude tongen.
