He watched Justin walk by, not stopping at all, not seeming to even notice Giriko’s stare. It was clear he was in the middle of working, probably passing through to get to some of the back offices or back ways to avoid students. Everyone here was acting normal, as if nothing was happening here. Nothing was different. It made Giriko’s mouth feel sour.

None of them ever stayed though, or rather, Arachne fired them quick, never pleased and very careful to not have someone around long enough to start to realize things weren’t quite right.

He rushed over to the scythe, and pulled away the covers, ignoring how Justin shouted in surprise, grabbing onto his neck and curling himself up further. He looked scared, but not hysteric…

The elite’s agreement to not interfere with the rumors about Justin was not just to be mean, to make their executioner self conscious or upset. It was because that way all the ideas about him would never take hold. They’d always be different and seen as just nonsense kids made up.
The worries and fears would conflict so much, making it impossible to pin down what Justin was actually like. In a way, they were encouraging the students to see Justin as something like an urban legend. Something that almost didn’t seem real.
Something that they could never really understand what was being done with.
