Summary
Rust's easy with affection in a way Marty didn't expect, breakfast and cuddling and "I love you"s ("it's a fact, Marty, why wouldn't I say it?") But he fears a gift on a date specifically made for gift giving will prompt Rust into a speech, dispassionate rambling in a way Marty has come to find endearing and yeah, a little hot, sue him, but this time will just make him sad, cause he doesn't want this to be about "comercialization of love" or whatever his inner Rust is babbling about

Rust and Marty get married so they don't have to testify against each other in court. They're pretty sure no one's gonna believe it. Everyone's like "Yeah, that checks out".

Summary
Eggs, Bread… Cold meats. Rounded penmanship, graceful cursive sloping word to word but flickering tremors in the clean black lines.
Saw you on the T.V – wanted to say something like thank you – couldn’t – drying out again. Remembered you both – that time. Maybe you do, maybe you don’t remember coming to see me. Heard you got pretty beat up – sending my regards. My humble thanks. Thanks. Thanks and thanks. Both you boys.

Summary
The night sweat started up again, cold dampness running down his neck, the blood rushing into his ears. They wouldn't have left him with the RV, would they? They couldn't go on foot with Issac pregnant. He felt dizzy all over again, stumbling unevenly towards the door. Slipping once or twice before finally getting it open, Max burst into the outside world with a creaky noise from the sealant on the door.

Summary
“People respond to trauma in weird ways, Marty. There are psychological displacement effects. And obviously I contributed to all this by- Look, whatever you think you feel right now, it’s highly likely that at some point you’re going to freak out that I tried to turn you gay or something.”
“I am not going to- First of all, I’m not going to fucking ‘freak out’. Second, I am obviously not gay. I don’t know whether I’m bisexual or whether for some bizarre reason my heart and my dick have decided to make an exception specifically for you, of all people-”
Rust nearly dies (again), and Marty comes to a realization.

Summary
If they didn’t want him drunk at work, Marty reasoned, swirling the glass and watching the whiskey cling to the sides in that way that always put him in the mindset of maple syrup—of Saturday mornings when his father got out early for work and it was just him, his mom, pancakes on the stovetop and the sun turning the crummy kitchen linoleum gold—if they didn’t want him drunk at work, they shouldn’t have had him at a bar.
===
It's the early '90s. Marty is (mildly) undercover, investigating a case and pounding whiskey and panicking about the steady, settled, regular-type life he swears he wants. Rust is (deep) undercover and wondering if he remembers what it is to want. By chance, they meet.
