Steve blinks at her bemusedly, and then she points out beyond the pool- where Eddie Munson sits in the grass, smiling lazily as El and little Holly Wheeler adorn him in daisy chains, giggling as he bows to each of them, adjusting his flowery crown.
Steve groans, face in his palms.
“Yeah,” he laughs dryly, “if only Eddie was a chick, huh?”

Summary
Steve sputters, his cheeks going pink, before blurting, “Ahoy, Eddie. Would you like to set sail on this ocean of flavor with me? I’ll be your captain.”
There’s a beat of silence between them, during which Eddie surreptitiously pinches his thigh to make sure he’s not dreaming and Steve’s face turns an alarming shade of cherry red.
“Oh my god,” Eddie finally exhales, “are you serious right now?” He splays his hands out on the counter and leans toward Steve with a shit-eating grin. “Captain Steve—well it certainly has a ring to it.”
Five times Eddie sees Steve in his Scoops Ahoy uniform, and one time he sees him out of it.

“So let me get this straight,” Robin says, her brows knitting together.
“Not straight,” Steve mutters, because if there’s anything he does know, it’s that.
Robin leans back against the wall, sighing heavily. She drops any pretense of real irritation, her expression adopting a strange mix of fond exasperation and burning curiosity instead. “You tried to break up Vickie’s relationship for me—which I never asked you to do, by the way—and then ended up falling for her boyfriend.”
“Yes.”
“And said boyfriend is Eddie Munson.”
“…Yes.”
In which Robin is distraught over the fact that Vickie’s got a new metalhead boyfriend and Steve takes it upon himself to intervene. Commence Operation Homewrecker — with some unforeseen complications.

Steve tilts his head to the side as he thinks. Maybe not very often, but his freshman year when Davey Riggs had been swim team captain? Yeah, he had definitely imagined some stuff that had made trips to the locker room kinda awkward.
“Yeah, that's true,” Steve answers, nodding. “I wonder why everybody acts like it's so gross, though.”
In the summer of 1986, Steve and Eddie have some perfectly normal fun between a couple of perfectly normal dudes.
