His shizun’s eyes were unfocused, nearly gray with fatigue as his body battled against a monster. Still, Binghe’s words made his shizun turn to him. “Binghe is…?” His shizun fought against the fugue the demon had placed him under to focus on Binghe’s eyes. “Anger?” he asked, his voice little more than a whisper.
He thought about shizun’s question, then of his silence, the halting way he’d admitted to what had happened the night before last. “Pain or fear.”
Shizun shivered, curling further under the blankets. The act seemed to wake something within him; he blinked down at himself, then gave a rueful twist of his lips. “Oh.”
