Summary
The summer flowers were already in full bloom, but Shane barely even noticed them. Work had been absolute shit, and the hangover was starting to really piss him off. The only thought in his mind was to get to the saloon for a cold one. His thoughts were interrupted, though, as he noticed N exiting Harvey’s clinic, wearing a strange expression and a sweater far too hot for the warm weather. Shane frowned.
The farmer was definitely hiding something.

Shane has built walls around his heart that are too thick to tear down—at least, that’s what he tells himself. He’s just fine being alone, tending to his chickens and drowning his demons in beer. But when a bright, relentless farmer moves to Pelican Town and somehow sees him, Shane’s carefully constructed walls start to crack. He doesn’t want her to get too close. He doesn’t want to be saved. He doesn’t want anything from her.
But she doesn’t give up on him.
And now, as his heart begins to betray him, Shane has to decide if he’ll keep running from the thing that could save him—or let her follow him into the dark.
