Summary
“I’ve wanted nothing more than to save you. It is my greatest fantasy,” Belos admitted. His hand reached out to brush her hair from her face. “I hate to think that you may be beyond saving. If you said the words to me now, I would happily whisk you away.”
Luz jerked, roiled by disgust. “Fuck you!”
Belos frowned. “Certainly not the words I wanted, but unfortunately the ones I expected. You are foolish to a fault, girl. Your self-preservation is laughable.”
His staff flared ominously red. The colour splashed over his solemn, pale face.
The petrification spell sped up. Luz gasped as the tingling sensation ran up her fingertips and ate its way to her knuckles; her fingers briefly fused to the spot on her chest where she clutched her hurt, now petrified, hand. She jerked swiftly with the snap of thin, crumbling stone. Quickly, however, the weight of the petrification became too heavy for her to handle. As her fists enveloped in stone, Luz’s struggling arms fell to the floor. She gritted her teeth and glowered at Belos.
Belos eased himself fully onto his knees. He set his staff aside.
“I suppose I shall take what I am owed for my loyalty and mourn this loss later.”
