“Huh?” Bob looks at her, certain he’s misheard. Linda is smiling, all innocence, her head cocked curiously. “You want me to…”
“Come check out my place. If you want, I mean.” She blinks… weirdly. Like maybe she’s trying to flutter her eyelashes and not quite nailing it. It’s actually working for him. “No pressure.”
“Right. Uh, right.” No pressure. That’s fine. Bob is just going to go up to Linda’s apartment, and look around a little, and oh my god he feels his eyes flicker down to look at her mouth. Stop. He immediately forces himself to make eye contact again and finds a new glimmer in Linda’s eye, her smile just the tiniest bit wider. Crap, she definitely noticed. He’s about to stammer out something probably not very smooth when Linda, agonizingly slow, winks.
He feels himself go bright red. “Oh my god,” he breathes. “Yeah, uh, yep. Okay. Sounds good.”

His feet-ankles-knees-hips-back are killing him. But: “It’s still early. I can’t make you run the restaurant by yourself.” Not that she couldn’t. She knows how to hustle, and she’s great with the customers. But it’s the principle of the thing—Bob is a restauranteur. He can work in his own damn restaurant.
Linda leans into his space so he can see her skeptical expression. She’s trying (and failing) to raise a single eyebrow. “C’mon, are you really gonna tell me your feet don’t hurt?”
Bob huffs, exasperated, and shuts off the water. “Everything hurts, Lin. That’s pretty much the entire point of being pregnant.”
Pregnancy is an adjustment.

He Xuan shakes their head miserably, looking intently at her. She’s smiling encouragingly, the expression softened and sweet, her eyes glimmering. Their gaze slides down further, to her throat. They want to kiss it, make it theirs; they want to rip it out with their teeth. “What’s wrong with you?” they murmur half-heartedly, but they mean: What’s wrong with me?
Shi Qingxuan doesn’t falter for a moment. “Breathe,” she repeats. “You just got overwhelmed all of a sudden.” He Xuan is overwhelmed, but it’s far from sudden – the pressure’s been building and building to a raging crescendo, and they never had the sense to calm it. Now, it’s far too late.
He Xuan grapples with their desire for revenge as their feelings for Shi Qingxuan shift.
