If the cop hadn’t closed the door then, Shane might even have responded: and I don’t have a scratch on me.
Or: After the fanmail video, but before Shane transfers to Ottawa, a group of guys sees Shane walking alone and decides to do something about it. It doesn’t go particularly well for them.

Summary
The NHL was. Well, the NHL was the NHL. It was like any other long-standing tradition, slightly backwards, and a little to the left. Shane could ignore the words spit at him. Could ignore teasing that got slightly too heated when he started scoring big. Hockey was a violent sport. A contact sport. A sport where tensions ran high and tempers flared higher.
The point was, that Shane knew that the NHL wouldn’t always, entirely love him back. Knew that, maybe, no matter how much he loved hockey, it wouldn’t always be good to him. But. But it’s a different thing hearing it than it is living it. It’s different. It’s.
