    Summary

When they stepped into the hallway, it didn’t take long for Suguru to sense something Haibara had just debunked. He paused and tilted his head, to see if he was just sensing a lingering scent from downstairs.

“I thought you said no co-ed?” Suguru asked, continuing down the hall toward his room number. “I can smell an omega.”

    _____

Suguru's new roommate is a prime alpha, just like him. Except Satoru's a special kind of prime alpha--just not in the way either of them think.

    Summary

Suguru begins to wonder if it’s lonely for Gojo. Keeping an inch between him and the world.

Not an inch, a voice that sounds suspiciously like Shoko reminds him. Infinity.

But does it feel like infinity? When summer’s humidity swells to its peak, can Gojo feel the pressure? When a barrage of low-level curses ambushes them in Roppongi, can he sense their velocity, the twist of the wind? When Suguru grazes the immovable space between them - hands him a test paper, shoulders past him in the corridor, reaches out, unthinking, to slap him on the back – does Gojo know the warmth of Suguru's skin?

Then, on July 12th, in a sour-smelling alley in Katsushika ward, Suguru catches him. Hunched over, spindly legs crouched, a street-worn cat pressing her nose to his fingertips. It licks her sandpaper tongue over his knuckles. Rubs the flat of her forehead against his palm. Gojo hums, pushing a tangled cowlick back with his thumb, a serene little smile on his face.

Yes, Suguru thinks. It must be lonely.

(Trauma is complicated, brains are strange, and Satoru Gojo is not immune to either of these truths.)

    Summary

“Whitaker, you need to sit down. You have a concussion.” The voice next to him tries to tell him, and it's almost familiar this time.

“Yeah I realized that, I am a fuckin' doctor. Student doctor. Whatever.” he replies, turning to squint at the man sitting next to him. “Look, can you just get Dr. Robby? He’ll tell you I'm fine, I gotta get back to work, I got… patients and shit.”

The man looks at someone behind him, some expression he can’t quite figure out. He starts to say something else, and—oh shit he’s gonna throw up fuck—he tries to lean away and not vomit all over anyone else. He doesn't quite make it.

“Shit,” yeah, he definitely ruined that guy’s shoes. Whoops. “Sorry.”

    Summary

Dennis Whitaker has never needed fate to tell him who he’s meant to be.
    Doctor. Full stop.

He just really didn’t expect that on his very last rotation of medical school, his new attending would casually speak the words inked around his bicep.
    ---
Robby has spent years believing soulmates and fate are for two kinds of people: fools and the forgiven. It’s easier than admitting what it would mean if the words on his ribs weren’t a mistake.

    It’s simple, really:
Whitaker’s his mentee. His legacy, maybe.
    Not his soulmate.

And if Robby has to burn down every possibility to keep it that way, he will.

    Summary

Shoko keeps asking him if they fell out because of a fight, or something. He assures her it’s much simpler than that:

Satoru moved to Kyoto for university, and Suguru stayed in Tokyo. They didn’t really keep in touch.

Sad, sure— but such fates are met by plenty of childhood friends.

(He knows Shoko texts Satoru a lot, knows they kept in contact— and he wonders if she asks him the same question: Did you have a fight?

He wonders if Satoru gives her a different answer.)

    //

Or: Despite all the memories coloring their childhood, at twenty-four, Suguru hadn't seen Satoru for years. And then he's there, again, in his life, abrupt and distracting and mesmerizing like a snowstorm, and Suguru has a lifetime or feelings he seems to have gotten too old to ignore.
