Summary
He looked like nothing had ever happened. Like he was still in sandy Herat, little Khadija at his side, telling him about her day at school—not yet a woman, nothing about her that their father could hold against her. Like he still had all his fingers and didn’t know what fire felt like when it singed his skin, didn’t have to worry about losing his clothes to an outburst. Like his eyes were still dark and he didn’t yet have to shave to avoid looking like every other asshole in the family.
Just over a decade of putting his life at risk for a living, and yet he’d never felt quite as exposed as he did now.
Flambae had shoved open the door with a little too much force, pushing through as he did with all things unpleasant.

Or: Flambae takes Waterboy out on a date. What starts out as a moral obligation turns into a genuinely enjoyable afternoon, even if it comes with some confusing feelings in tow.

Summary
After the rest of their party disappears into the city on their next quest to bring down the Absolute, Astarion and Gale find themselves stranded in the Elfsong Tavern with nothing to do except needle at one another.
Their teasing banter detours into personal terrain when the vampire discovers Gale’s divine tryst with Mystra was purely spiritual, and that his physical body has never known the touch of a lover. Intrigued by the thought of seducing a mortal virgin, Astarion proposes filling in the gaps of Gale’s education.

Summary
Despite his intelligence, Gale was shockingly stupid and stupidly kind. Astarion was half convinced it was why even the prickliest of people seemed to soften to his buffoonery. Comfortable to bare his soul to whoever asked in that guileless way of his, even Lae’zel seemed charmed by his ability to put his foot in his mouth and just keep on talking. At first, it had infuriated Astarion but now he saw it for what it was: his way back into the fold. If he could get himself into a position where he knew Gale would vouch for him, Gale’s relationships with the rest of the party would protect him.

Astarion thinks he's manipulating Gale so that Gale will protect him. Gale thinks maybe he’s making a new friend? Both are falling in love but they failed their wisdom saving rolls so they don't realize it.
