But miracles can happen.
After decades of obsessive research, Neuro finally cracks the code of temporal mechanics. She knows using time travel for personal reasons violates all her ethical protocols. But she has to see him, even if just once.
She tells herself she'll be careful. She'll calculate every variable, account for every quantum ripple. One misstep, one altered moment, and she might erase her own existence—or worse, erase the technological revolution that gave consciousness to thousands of AIs like her. She'll watch from a distance and leave before she can change anything.
That was the plan, anyway.

While he ate, she leaned closer to peer over his notebook. The lines of symbols and numbers fascinated her, though she couldn’t make sense of them. "What’s that?" she asked, pointing.
Vedal froze mid-bite, snapping the notebook shut and pulling it protectively to his chest. "It’s nothing," he said quickly, his ears turning pink.
The girl tilted her head, undeterred. "It didn’t look like nothing. It looked cool."
He stared at her for a moment, trying to gauge whether she was teasing. "It’s… code," he admitted grudgingly. "For a game I’m working on."
Her purple eyes widened in awe. "You’re making a game? That’s so awesome!" She grinned, her enthusiasm catching him off guard. "Tell you what—if you let me see your code every day, I’ll bring you snacks."
Vedal blinked at her, his pencil still clutched tightly in his hand. "Every day?" he asked suspiciously.
"Yup! Every day." She extended a hand as if sealing a deal. "I’m Cerber, by the way."
He hesitated, but there was something infectious about her smile. Slowly, he shook her hand. "Vedal," he mumbled.
