His hands are on his face again. Gentle. Familiar as the first sip of tea, steam still rising from the cup.
“Let me be soft with you,” Miles says, his words hitting Phoenix’s face like all his delicate touches. “You and I deserve a little softness. And a little warmth.”
Fingers brushing the back of his knuckles as he’s handed a cup of tea, a handshake, a thumb pressed to his pulse, a kiss, a caress, and other ways Phoenix is forced to accept a gentle touch.

Summary
Miles watches Phoenix draw another heart in the sand. His mind feels quicker than usual, jumping from thought to thought, to the last time they saw each other in Phoenix’s office, to the feeling of his tears hot on Miles’s shirt, to the coffee from this morning still buzzing in his body. He watches Phoenix in silence for a moment, transfixed by the way his finger carves shapes into the shifting sand.
“I’ve been thinking,” he says. “About the last time we saw each other. Six months ago. In your office.”
Over magic tricks, glasses of wine, stubborn grains of sand clinging to their hair, and the fear that an ill advised meeting at Phoenix’s office following his disbarment months before has tainted their relationship, Miles hosts Phoenix and his new ward at his beach house.

“Three—we are not speaking about this to anyone. Partially because I don’t want to risk ending up in a trashy tabloid and ruining your reputation and my career forever, but mostly because I don’t want to spend the rest of my life answering the question ‘how was Klavier Gavin in bed?’”
“How was Klavier Gavin in bed?”
“I don’t know, I haven’t slept with him in one yet. Three drinks deep on a bathroom counter? He was pretty okay.”
Or: Ema Skye and Klavier Gavin attempt to have a casual sexual relationship. It doesn't go as planned—for better or for worse.
