Summary
Ten months ago Zoey's husband died, leaving her alone and broken with two five year olds to take care of. She'd felt trapped, stuck in her grief, surrounded by constant reminders of him. All Zoey wanted was an escape from her pain, and somehow that led her to making the decision to pack up her entire life and move over six thousand miles from home. It probably wasn't the sanest idea, but her sanity was limited at the moment, and her family supported her so it couldn't be that bad.
Though she never could've imagined that she would end up moving in across the street of The Ryu Rumi and Kang Mira, the pair having moved from Korea years ago after getting married in search of a quiet life away from the spotlight, and a place where they could start a family of their own. Not that they'd had much luck in the latter. Nine months ago Mira lost the baby they'd so desperately wanted and almost died in the process, leaving her and Rumi to deal with their own grief and pain.
Meeting them was like coming up for fresh air, and every day she spent with them felt like a reminder that life could still be good. When Zoey was with them she felt like maybe, just maybe, she could fall in love again.

Summary
"I would give anything for her to look at me the way she used to,” her voice was rougher than usual, “The way she used to when she thought we weren’t looking.” She reached out and brushed a piece of hair from Zoey's face, bringing her hand down to cradle the younger girl's cheek. Zoey leaned into her palm, “What if she never does? What if she hates us and there's nothing we can do about it?” Her lip quivered, and her breathing started to quicken, “W-what if we lose her forever?”
Rumi's stomach dropped, and all she wanted to do was run in there and hug them, kiss them, assure them everything was gonna be alright. But could she? Could she walk in there and tell them they wouldn’t lose her? Could she tell them she didn’t hate them? No. No she couldn’t, because she’d be lying to them. A part of her did hate them, and she despised that. She let out a silent breath as tears clouded her vision. She was gonna lose them. She was gonna be all alone. Her breathing quickened.“No. No. No. No. No. Not right now. Please, not right now,” she thought helplessly.

Summary
“I was cleaning up earlier, and I-,” she began to cry again, harder this time. “Fuck. Mira, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to find it, I swear. It was an accident.” Rumi kept her arms banded tightly around herself, as if she was holding herself together.
Mira was staring at Rumi with an incredulous look. What was she talking about? What could she have found to get her so worked up? “Baby, what did you find? I can’t make you feel better if you don’t tell me why you're upset. I promise I won’t be mad. There’s nothing you could do to make me mad at you.” She moved up onto the bed and wrapped her arm around Rumi’s shoulders, hugging her close and pressing a kiss to her temple. Rumi slowly unwrapped her arms from her body and raised her left hand. “I found this in the closet,” she whispered, so softly it was almost imperceptible. Mira looked at her hand, puzzled for a moment before it clicked. Sitting there in the palm of her hand was a small velvet box.
