Footsteps moved across the room, before Glinda felt the bed dip. Teary eyes looked up, finding Elphaba perched on the edge of her bed, one hand raised towards her. She could see the uncertainty behind her eyes fading into determination as she rested her palm over a blanket-covered shoulder. “I- I obviously meant a lot to you, if your magic brought you all the way back here to save me. I can’t be anything but grateful to have met you.”

When she suddenly finds herself thrown back in time by magic she didn’t know she had, Glinda is determined to save Elphaba from the cruel future she knows is right around the corner. However, the stakes are raised as feelings deepen, and she’d never considered that the future she was trying to fix was a thing of the past, and the one looming ahead might just break her even more.

The memories of the Melting wouldn’t leave her, and neither did the grief. Glinda tried everything she could to fall asleep: switching rooms, rubbing lavender lotion on her hands, even drinking a foul tasting concoction that one of her handmaidens swore would put her to sleep as soon as her head hit the pillow (it didn’t). And even when she did manage to fall asleep sometime just before dawn, Elphaba’s screams jarred her awake.
So one night Glinda found herself sitting at the desk in her study with a blank sheet of paper in front of her. Dear Elphaba, she wrote, and then watched the words waver at the top of the page. She crossed them out and started over. Dearest Elphaba . It was ridiculous. Elphaba would never read her words again. But she found that they came anyway, faster than she could commit them to paper.
Or: Glinda begins writing letters to Elphaba in the aftermath of the Melting. When she pushes herself beyond the point of exhaustion four years later, Chistery decides to take matters into his own hands and deliver the letters to Elphaba in an attempt to save Glinda's life.
