Summary
Galinda needs to be more passionate about things that matter. For example, one of Elphaba’s eyelashes falling onto her cheekbone does not matter. Elphaba hasn’t even noticed it, so Galinda shouldn’t care. She looks down at her empty notebook. Picks up a pen.
She really does care about that eyelash, though, she needs to swipe it off of Elphaba’s face and set it on the desk, or put it in her pocket or her mouth or something. Maybe smell it. Galinda wonders if Elphaba’s eyelashes smell like the rest of her, like old books and intrigue.
Elphaba turns to look at Galinda, and oh, shit.

Summary
The balloon shook, bumping again into the roof. “Hey!” Glinda shouted. “No!” The fury built further, irrational now. Her chest seemed to swell, as though she were holding her breath ‘til her lungs were fit to burst. She could feel herself trembling, past even the shiver of the basket beneath her. A sort of humming seemed to build and build until suddenly the balloon’s shuddering slowed and their ascent resumed, faster and faster. Below, the guards were scattered across the floor and the wheel was spinning. In the opposite direction. Glinda looked up, seeing the rooftop unfold like a toy and release them into the open air.
Glinda and Elphaba escape Madame Morrible's clutches in the Wizard's old balloon, leaving Glinda no chance to hesitate. It changes things.

"Oh," Elphaba considered Galinda, her brows furrowing. "I thought we were going to do that this evening."
"Well, Elphie, you know what they say," Galinda declared, already rising and snatching both of their school things like an irritated pack mule. "There's no time like the present. And would you look at that, it's presently the present, so let's go, shall we?"
A jealous Galinda is tired of Fiyero flirting with her official-unofficial girlfriend, the perfectly good and perfectly hers Elphaba Thropp. Emboldened by a very healthy dose of possession, Galinda wastes no time in reminding her Elphie to whom she belongs.
