Jean and Lisa go out flower-picking together.
Lisa kneels in a sprawling field of flowers, head bowed as she scours the available blossoms with intent eyes. Her dark skirt is bunched up against her thighs the way Jean’s seen Diluc and Kaeya do with their shorts, but it makes her face feel hot in a way that the boys’ hadn’t. Wildflowers gather like ghostly smoke at her knees, scattered and slight and golden, a mirage of freckled stars that trickle between her legs like a liquid Milky Way. Jean cannot help her staring, but she can’t quite bring herself to mind. Lisa is beautiful, after all, in the same way that lightning or a solar eclipse is: hopelessly impermanent yet brilliant all the same.

“We had a ball at the academy,” Lisa says easily, looking down and wiggling her toes in between the sand. She doesn’t know how long she’d been lying on Jean’s neck before finally moving, but stretching her legs feels nice. The water is surprisingly warm.
“Oh?” Jean turns her head, and without looking, Lisa knows she’s smiling, “Who did you ask?” she teases.

“I’m still waiting.” Barbara’s eyes narrow a little. “I’m sure you have a good explanation for missing the signs this time.”
In truth, Jean has none.
Across the room, Lisa chuckles. The sound of it is mostly amused, but there’s a hint of tension that Jean can’t help but think about a little harder.
“Now, now, I think we should be a little more forgiving of our lovely Jean.” Lisa doesn’t even look up from Andressa, who’s happily nursing from her chest. “It has been almost two years since her last rut, after all.”
There are many Alphas who are lucky enough to only have ruts when triggered by an Omega’s heat pheromones. All they need to do is avoid said pheromones, and they can carry on with their lives without any more concern than a Beta would have. Jean is not so lucky.
Jean falls into rut. Thankfully, her mate is right there to help her through it.

Lisa’s eyes narrow ever so slightly. “I think my mate is doing her best to hide just how poorly she’s taking care of herself again.” The hand on her back flexes a little, manicured nails digging into her skin. “Don’t try to deny it. Kaeya told me you didn’t get out of your office all day.”

It takes everything Jean has in her not to pout at the treason. At least she knows Kaeya does these things out of concern. Still...
“I have merely been too busy,” Jean says. It’s a weak argument, she knows that, but what else is she supposed to say? “I’m already behind on schedule.”
Lisa hums. Her hand lets go of Jean’s back and instead comes to rest on her thigh. It inches a little closer to Jean’s crotch than should be acceptable in an office. She can’t stop Lisa, though. The look on her mate’s eyes freezes her in place.
Jean neglects to take care of herself properly due to work yet again. Thankfully, Lisa knows just what she needs to do to fix that.
