Summary
I finally brought the phone down, though I can’t quite recall which of us was the one to hang up first with a sharp click. I didn’t give it too much thought, as I soon found myself worrying again. My hands started to feel sweaty as my head came back to the time I’d spent with Gatsby after the incident. I heard him pull up at around five o’clock in the morning and talked to him for the time being. Well, more than talking, I just listened. He had told me of his time with Daisy, although at one point it appeared like I wasn’t even present. As I was just used as a poor excuse for him to lose himself one last time in his delusion before its cracks became any more prominent.

Nick finds himself at work once again after spending most of his early morning with Gatsby. Once he ends an awkward call from Jordan Baker, he soon remembers his promise to Gatsby that he would call him at noon.
No one answers, and now he can't stop thinking about him as a terrible feeling starts to burn him on the inside.

Jason wrinkled his nose. "Perseus Jackson?" He asked. "I think the Cyclops had better manners than you."

Summary
Nick is more than happy to see that Gatsby had survived his near-death experience. More so than he'd like to admit, even to himself. The steady ground he has himself on begins to quake when it becomes obvious to him that Gatsby reciprocates his feelings, but he can't help that irking feeling that Gatsby only has it for him because of Daisy. Meanwhile, Gatsby makes it his mission to make sure that Nick understands that he loves him for him and no other reason. And, of course, that he'd never leave him again.
