In a small movement, Chuuya lifts both their hands together, intertwining them. It surprises Dazai out of his stupor, immediately trying to search Chuuya's expression to figure out exactly what his intent was here.
“Dazai,” Chuuya breathed out, slowly pushing Dazai's arms back, until Dazai fell back onto the couch; he looked over the other boy’s more lithe figure. Licked his lips before he took his hand away from gripping Dazai's limp one, shoving his thumb into Dazai's gums and pushing the skin back to consider the blunt teeth.

“Who are you then?”
“I am Dazai. Dazai Osamu.”
Chuuya’s eyes opened wide. He blinked a couple of times, then let out an incredulous breath. While retreating into his chair, he mumbled, “I... didn’t think it would work.”
“It really didn’t,” Dazai smirked. He made sure to inflect his tone with scorn and mockery; let it be known that he would not bend to a human’s fleeting desires. “That is not my real name.”
“It is.” Chuuya inclined his head to the side, curls caressing his features in fire, highlighting the redness of his cheeks — he was embarrassed, Dazai mused. Humans’ foolishness really was amusing: they had so little time and spent so much of it feeling. “As long as we’re together, that is your real name.”

Summary
After Dazai leaves the mafia and joins the Armed Detective Agency, Chuuya encounters him once more on the streets. Despite still being in love with Dazai, Chuuya remains silent, overwhelmed by his own cowardice and regret for not reciprocating Dazai’s confession years ago. As he watches Dazai interact with Kunikida in the same way he once did with Chuuya, the distance between them becomes painfully clear. Chuuya is left to confront the reality of his feelings, realising that while Dazai has moved on, he is still stuck in the past, haunted by what could have been.
