Oh, so the entirety of the Third Division had gone and raided the base for bedding so that Kafka could present it to her like a cat dropping a dead mouse at her feet. Those idiots!

"Here," he says another time, thrusting a handful of pocket handwarmers into Reno's grasp, "hold these."
"How would you feel," he ventures tonight, only once they're well out of earshot of anyone else, "about getting naked?"
Reno chokes, spluttering tea back into the to-go mug Iharu had handed him. "What," he rasps.
Iharu is trying his best to appear unaffected, but the tips of his ears are turning red, and he can't look Reno in the eye. "It's just… we've tried everything. I wasn't gonna suggest this at all, if I could avoid it, but," he shrugs and sighs, a picture of resignation. "It's actually the top recommendation, y'know. Rescue workers, mountain climbers and the rest, countless forums and articles– they all say the best way to get someone warm, quick and safe-like, is to both get naked. And like. Cuddle, I guess."
Well. Reno is no mountaineer, so who is he to argue?

He was reckless in his own right, with a stubborn determination set ablaze in his soul, and he needed someone to look out for him. That someone just happened to be him. He hadn't been trying to parent, just be a protector in his own way.
And yet, he thought, lightly running his fingers through Ichikawa's messy hair, maybe Dad wasn't all that bad a title. Even if it was given unintentionally.
