"But we’re too good, Darcy, and I like to keep the good things I find. So let’s just…pick it up. We’ll keep in contact, and whenever we’re in the same city, we’ll find our way back to each other, like nothing has passed.”
“Elizabeth, we don’t know when we’ll see each other again,” he says, with a strange edge to his voice. Mournful, hopeful, warning, wanting. But the look in his eyes tells her that she has him.
“And I’m telling you to live your life, and I’ll live mine, and neither of us owes the other anything. Just when we can, you’ll look for me.” It makes sense, more than anything, and she likes the thought of still belonging to herself.
Eyes fixed on hers, Darcy lifts her hands slowly to his lips, laying light kisses upon them. “Okay. We’ll pick it up.”
The one where they're both always travelling, and it seems like the prudent thing to keep their relationship as something that only happens when they're both in the same place. And that's enough for them— until it isn't.
