John didn’t know if it was the sight of the dark-haired man with the sharp cheekbones, the dexterous, long fingers on the violin, the beautiful notes he played, or a combination of all three, but he was utterly mesmerised the moment the man started playing. A shiver ran down his spine, and he was unable to look away.
Suddenly the man looked up, straight into John’s eyes, and their eyes locked. The man’s eyes were ice-blue, almost glistering in the warm light that surrounded them, and John swore he’d never seen such remarkable, gorgeous eyes before. The man gave him a small smile, and that was it. John felt how his knees went weak; his heart skipped a beat; his lungs refused to take a decent breath. If he didn’t know better, he would’ve sworn he’d just fallen in love with a complete stranger.But that couldn’t be possible, could it?

When the florist looked up to put the vase on the counter, he apparently noticed the arrival of his new customer. “I’ll be with you in a moment,” he said in a bright tone, before turning back to the flustered lady and ringing up her purchase. He herded her out the door, closing it after her and turned back to Sherlock. He put his hands behind his back and raised his face up to catch Sherlock’s eye, an open expression in his eyes. “How can I help you, then?”
“I’m looking for a bouquet.”
“Oh really?” The man’s tone was mocking, a glint in his bright blue eyes.
Sherlock rolled his eyes, but couldn’t help smiling. “I– Well, there’s… You’ve got all of these…” He winced. “Things. Trinkets. Could have been anything.” There was something about the cheeky expression of the florist that made his breath high in his chest and his words come out jumbled.
The florist chuckled. “I’m teasing. Sorry. Any special occasion?"

Clara's American father is the ambassador to some such territory that Great Britain probably used to own, but she (and Harry’s undying love for her) is the reason John is getting on a flight at 12:30pm, flying across the second largest ocean in the world, and pretending to be in a perfectly happy, healthy relationship with an undoubtedly perfectly coiffed stranger.
See, Clara is not only American (and wealthy to boot), she's also best friends with John’s ex-fiancee. Whom she's placed in the wedding party. As Maid of Honor.
And John just happens to be Best Man.

Standing there amidst Janine's chattering bridesmaids, watching Sherlock furrow his brow and study fabric swatches, watching him smile and simper and flirt, John thought it a remarkably apt colour choice. Because he felt quite sick to his stomach, he feared the source of said sickness might very well be jealousy, and he had absolutely no idea at all what to do about it.
Or: Sherlock needs to fake a relationship for a case. He doesn't ask John.

“And we”, he growled, “are here why, exactly?”
Sherlock painted the picture of innocence as he answered, ever so glibly: “I thought you’d enjoy a night out with friends. Mrs Hudson still has Rosie, we might as well make use of the free evening.”
It might have worked, if John couldn’t see Greg facepalming out of the corner of his eye. Molly was staring at her feet as if trying very hard not to give anything away. Really, none of them were good actors. Something was going on and all three of them were in on it.
Expecting to simply return home after a hideously simple case for an evening in with his flatmate and his daughter, John instead finds himself being dragged to a pub by Sherlock. But what starts out as a nice evening catching up with Molly and Greg soon reveals itself as a scheme to help him get back in the dating game after Mary's death. Too bad that John really only wants one person - and he's trying to set him up.
