Summary
When he was first appointed as the Princess’ guard, Link did not know what lay ahead. Top of his class, and widely considered the most capable swordsman in Hyrule, he assumed that he would live a comfortable life following the Princess around until she became the Queen, if his retirement did not come first. What he did not expect was the extraordinary and all-consuming adventure that came to be.
And it all began with the words, "Oh, Link. I'm home."
(Or, Link finally starts to realise how he feels about Zelda after she returns from what he assumed would be an eternal fate as a dragon. Brave enough to save Hyrule (twice), but not enough to confront his feelings head-on.)

“What are you doing here?” He asked evenly.
It was obvious what she was doing there, she thought miserably, fixing the pack slung over her back. “Taking a walk,” she huffed. He could easily call out to the guards, alerting them of her presence, foiling her escape plans. But he had explaining to do, too. “What are you doing here?” She asked.
He gave her a once over, spotting her bag. Caught. “Sneaking out,” he said.

Link is excited to make Princess Zelda’s acquaintance after freeing her from Ganon, but she seems determined to keep him at arm’s length. At first it was disheartening, but now it’s annoying. He’s her friend, whether she likes it or not!
He ambushes her at her home in Tarrey Town with the intention of feeding her honey candy and knock-knock jokes.
Then he realizes why she’s been avoiding people.
