    Summary

Jim is not completely out of his depth here. He’s gotten training for this kind of thing before, back when he was in the army. It was pretty common for soldiers to go into shock with the crap they had seen in combat.
He never expected to have to use what he learned here, in Hawkins, while trying to calm a teenage boy.

In the aftermath of the first Demogorgon attack, Jim Hopper is called to the Harrington residence for a welfare check. He finds a Steve who is struggling, and fights to help.

    Summary

Picking up immediately after the events of And You Can’t Stay on Your Feet, Clark is still recovering from a near-fatal encounter with Kryptonite and the trauma of his kidnapping by Maxwell Lord and Lex Luthor. He’s dealing with lingering fears and trying to get his life back together while distancing himself from those he's scared to hurt. Meanwhile, he still has to work at the Daily Planet and figure out the crime wave in the Metropolis Dock District. Not to mention, should he be helping Bruce with his acquisition of the Justice Gang?

In the notes at the top, I've included a summary of the first work in case you aren’t comfortable reading about the SA that happens in it, though please note that while there will be no further SA in this one, it will still deal with recovery from what happened so it will be mentioned.

    Summary

“Hey newbie. Ever worked in a bar before?” the guy asks with an easy smile. Steve snaps his eyes up to meet his, and shit they’re pretty. The greeting would be charming from anyone else, perhaps even from the guy himself if he’d not overheard the exchange moments before, but Steve’s insides curl at the condescension.

“Yeah. For about five years. Thanks. And my name’s Steve,” he responds, voice clipped. He yanks at the ties of his apron, knotting the bow just a little tighter than is comfortable. He’ll have to adjust it later, but the man’s dark eyes are roaming over him like he’s something edible, and there’s no way Steve’s going to give any indication whatsoever that he’s prey.

“Nice to meet you, Steve. I’m Eddie.”

Steve can’t prevent the way his face scrunches in confusion, because surely not. There’s no way that this is the Eddie. Sure, he’s not exactly hard on the eyes, but from the little Steve’s experienced of him so far, he seems like a major ass. The way Bridget had hyped him up, anyone would think fucking Jon Bon Jovi worked here.

    OR

when the upmarket cocktail bar Steve's working at goes out of business, he finds himself in desperate need of a job.

    Summary

The idea that Steve’s parents could just walk back in after all this time was just so unthinkable. That they could just step over the threshold and into this soft, intimate space he and Steve had cultivated. It was enough to turn his stomach.

Eddie hadn’t moved since he had locked eyes with this stranger. His body had tensed completely, a cold chill crawling down his spine, his breath caught in his throat.

Mrs Harrington stared back at him.

    Summary

“Come to ask for an autograph?” Eddie asked.

    “Was it an original?”

“You don’t recognize Sabbath? Black Sabbath? Ozzy Osbourne?”

Altar boy tilted his head to one side like a confused puppy.

    “That’s devastating, altar boy.”

    “Steve.”

    “Huh?”

“My name’s Steve, incase you feel like serenading some more, and, uh, I’m not an altar boy.”

“No?” Eddie’s eyes flicked over him. “You look like one.”

“I’m surprised you’d know, I doubt you’ve ever stepped foot inside a church.”

“And what? You’re gonna change that for me?”

Steve let out an amused exhale. “I suppose no one’s past saving, but you might be a close call.”

“Lucky for you, I didn’t ask for saving. Long live the devil, baby.”
