Summary
That was the very thing the Doctor had been waiting for, all these years, long before Jamie had ever been returned to him. And the moment he was – well, he’d known it was coming eventually. One day, Jamie would find out the truth, and he would hate him for it. It didn’t take a Time Lord’s senses to understand that little bit of causality.
The worst thing of all – the worst thing of all, he thought, as he wiped the back of his hand across his mouth like he really had been struck -
The worst thing was that it tasted sweet, knowing that he was right. To hear Jamie say it, in his own words. In his own voice. In the flesh, with that bit of hatred in his eyes, bright and shining and true.
The Doctor hasn't been quite honest about what the Time Lords employ them for, knowing that Jamie would never stand for it. But a secret as big as the one he's been keeping is always going to come to light eventually, and he was never going to be able to keep Jamie in the dark and by his side forever.
He'd always known Jamie would hate him for it. But he hadn't reckoned with the relief that honesty would bring to him.

Summary
The crow had fallen with a squawk, he knew that much. It had vanished through the branches – and there had been a thud on the ground, just as he’d expected. Or hoped, maybe, with his unsteady hands.
But now that the world was coming back to him, his heart slowing just a little, the bow loose in his hands again – something seemed wrong. The thud had been far heavier than it should have been, for such a small animal, even after falling from a height. And there had been a flash of motion, a shadow too large.
Frowning, he crept closer, one hand already reaching for another arrow, just in case of – something. He wasn’t sure what he was expecting to see, or what could possibly hurt him, when he was alone in the world, or what a simple arrow could do against it -
Except – he wasn’t alone in the world. Not anymore.
Because instead of a crow on the ground, there was a man.
The world has ended, shattered by a magical apocalypse. By pure chance, Jamie finds himself as the lone human survivor.
Except - he might not be as alone as he thought.

“What did you argue about?” she asked.
“Oh, it was – it was a silly thing, really.” That was the truth, at least. He couldn’t even recall exactly how it had started. He had said something to Jamie – or perhaps Jamie had said something to him, and – “It just – spun out of control, I suppose.”
Victoria nodded. “Sometimes things do. I remember, with my father -” She paused, mouth caught half-open for a moment before she pressed it into a smile. “Well, I think it’s quite normal.”
“But we never used to argue,” the Doctor mused. “Not like this. It’s – ever since Maxtible, and the Daleks, and that terrible business – somehow we’ve started.”
Things haven't been the same between the Doctor and Jamie since their argument in Maxtible's house. The Doctor really doesn't mean to lay it all on Victoria, not after everything she's been through - but that isn't easy when she's such a willing confidant, and she might just have the wisdom he needs to sort things out.

“Would you go back to it?” Eilidh asked. Its neck snaked forward, just a little, its muzzle bearing down on him. He hadn’t quite realised, before, just how large it was. “If you had the choice?”
Jamie’s hand tightened around his knife, almost as if he was about to whip it out of its sheath. Here was where he delivered the killing blow.
“I wouldn’t go back,” he said. “Not for anythin’ in the world.”
He’d been right, tucked away in that little rowboat, hoping the Doctor would lead him home. He just hadn’t known where home really was.
“Not for anything in the world?” Eilidh repeated, so slow and measured that it sent a shiver down his spine. “Not even to save the Doctor?”
When a creature with the ability to see through time gives Jamie a glimpse of what's coming for him and the Doctor, he's faced with an impossible choice - to leave the Doctor, or lose him.

Summary
The Doctor peered down at him, eyes narrowed, just long enough that Jamie started to squirm beneath his scrutiny. “Are you – are you quite happy, Jamie?”
The question hit Jamie like a blow to the stomach, or a mouthful of water slipping down his throat before he’d had a chance to swallow properly. Lurching forward, he muffled the huff of breath that escaped his mouth in the heel of one hand.
Happiness was -
Well, it was something he hadn’t thought of at all, these last few days. Safety, yes, but not happiness. There had been so much else to worry about. And it wasn’t something he really ought to be expecting, after everything. Safety had already been too much to ask for.
Had the Doctor asked him that same question just a few days ago, though – then he would have said he was happy. It would have been an easy answer, as simple as breathing. He wouldn’t even have had to think about it.
The morning after his failed attempt to kill the Doctor, Jamie has to decide what to do next. Running away sounds like the most tempting option - but the Doctor's attempts to make peace might give him another way out.
