Summary
Obi-Wan’s expression slipped minutely, and he shifted in his seat. “She didn’t believe in it, you know.”
Cody frowned. “What, the Force?”
Obi-Wan’s lip twitched. “No, the Mandalorian afterlife. She said that it justified violence.”
———
Cody and Obi-Wan have a conversation about Mando’a, heaven, and the death of Satine Kryze.

Summary
Maybe it was weakness; a delusion Castiel had talked himself into for peace of mind. But he was coming around to the idea that maybe — just maybe — Chuck Shurley had been a deluded liar. In fact, the more he thought on it, the more he became convinced that the immensity of God and all that God implied could not possibly have been summarily contained in one short, petty megalomaniac.
Is it that thou art wholly everywhere whilst nothing altogether contains thee?
Chuck had always hated Castiel. He’d wanted him dead. And the God who lovingly put Castiel back together in 2010 did not have a beard.
It was all so damn confusing.

Summary
“Sir?”
“Call me Obi-Wan.”
Cody’s chest clenched, and he let the name rest on his tongue before he spoke it. “Obi-Wan.”
“Yes, Cody?”
An impulse streaked across Cody’s mind and he grasped it, steeling himself as it bloomed from an impulse to a need. “Can I— would you give me something? Before you go?”

Summary
“We are what we are,” Obi-Wan said gently. “We each have our own duties, and we have a shared responsibility to preserve the chain of command. We’re disciplined people, Cody. You know we are.” She felt almost like she was begging. It wasn’t fair; her commander was the one on her knees.
“True,” Cody agreed. “We are what we are. We have a war to manage. We have duties.” She was staring up at Obi-Wan’s lips, and it undercut her point. “Though maybe,” she said slowly, “we have a duty to manage this, too. Now that we know where we stand.”
Obi-Wan’s breath caught in her throat. Her hands had migrated from Cody’s shoulders to her neck. “How?”
“Responsible release of tension.”
Obi-Wan’s resolve began to crumble. Maybe they could do this — if only this. Maybe they could allow themselves this one form of indulgence.

Summary
“Why did you say it?” Ben asked quietly.
This was one of the things that had changed about the General. He no longer minced words. He was so hopelessly honest now, so flayed raw that it almost hurt to look at. He spoke like a man who knew you were about to leave him; who needed to get everything out in the open before you were gone.
Cody rolled onto his back, staring at the ceiling as he searched for words to fill the hole that they had, up until tonight, both been so politely ignoring.
Why did he say it? Why did he love him?
It was like being asked why the planet turned. There was an answer, surely, but it was too massive to hold in his mouth.
He shrugged, as best he could whilst lying down. “For all the usual reasons, I guess.”

Summary
Cody was having a very long day.
Actually, fuck that. It had been more than a long day. Long days were Cody’s bread and butter, practically his comfort zone. Marshall Commander Cody ate stim shots for breakfast and every shiny this side of Coruscant knew it. Long days were his bitch.
No, this had been more than a long day. Today had been a bad day.

Summary
Like a crazy person, like this is new information, Dean thinks: there’s an angel of the lord in my passenger seat. One day I brought him home with me and he hasn’t left since.
“Eyes on the road.”
He snorts reflexively. “Thanks, mom”.
Cas sighs loudly, and turns a little in his seat to look at Dean head on.
“You’re thinking very loudly.”
“Don’t read my thoughts, Cas”, Dean replies on autopilot, knowing even as he says it that that’s not what the angel meant.
There’s a beat of silence between them where Cas just lets the tension hang, knowing all too well that the steely look he’s currently beaming into the side of Dean’s head is enough to make him crack eventually.
Dean cracks.
“I guess I was just thinking that some shit never changes, y’know?”
———
Its been a long drive. Dean is thinking loudly.
