Summary
Jean straightened and cleared his throat. For the first time since he entered the room, he looked straight at Neil, and his intense gaze felt like a physical weight. “We can do this privately,” he offered.
Neil looked around again. “Do what privately, exactly?”
Jean blinked. “I need to apologize.”
“Apologize?” When he heard Nicky snort, Neil realized that he was inadvertently mimicking Jean’s accent back to him. He fought to keep it out of his voice when he continued, “For what?”
____
Or: The Trojans join the Foxes for an unofficial summer practice, reuniting Neil and Jean for the first time since the Nest. Still unable to recall most of it, Neil is ready to put the past behind them and forge a tentative friendship. But Jean can't move on until he believes he's earned Neil's forgiveness.
Jean attempts to expose his and Neil's shared wound in the interest of healing. But what happens when Jean discovers that he must fill in the gaps of Neil's memory in order to gain the forgiveness he craves? Will it do more harm than good? Will it resurrect Nathaniel, who's meant to be buried in Baltimore? And can they get a single second alone without the foxes breathing down their necks???
