It’d been an hour of them sitting in the cafe, while May tried to play the role of the catalyst of Misty’s dating life.
“We are failing the Bechdel test right now, by the way,” Misty murmured.
“Someone kill me right now,” May said, groaning. But she’d had enough of this, so she sat up straight and looked at Misty with determination. This was a now-or-never situation. "What if you chose to be happy, Misty? I’m resisting physical reactions that I didn’t know were possible. I wish to strangle you right now."
Misty likes Ash, May claims Ash likes her back. May will not leave until the two get together.

Misty and Ash lay down one ground rule—Friends shouldn't date. It disrupts the whole friend group & crossing that line would be a disaster, right? Because she would never date a friend, especially Ash Ketchum, with his chocolate brown eyes, cute freckles and small dimples. He's her best friend, a pal, a homie.
Alright, Ash is an…objectively attractive guy, she'd never denied that. But she never found him subjectively attractive either. If anything, she'd always rolled her eyes at people who were head over heels for him because she knew what a goofball he was. So no, she never found him attractive. Ever. Not even when they were kids. Not even when he’s all beach-ready without a shirt, or when he’s dressed in his old tux like some kind of prince, or when he wakes up and his hair is messy but in a cute way, or when he’s battling with that intense dedication and excitement that he practically glows. So, when she never had these feelings before, she doesn’t know why his attractiveness is affecting her all so suddenly. her mind is so fixated on this troublesome fact as if this is the first struggle she'd ever faced in her life.

Misty fidgets with the hem of her dress again. "What was?"
"Ash. The way he looked at you."
She opens her mouth and closes it. Because no, Ash Ketchum didn’t look at her. Not in that way. He barely even noticed she was wearing a dress—he just pointed out she looked different.
Right?
She rolls her eyes, trying to shake off the heat creeping up her neck. “You’re reading into things again, Brock.”
“Mm-hmm,” he hums knowingly, taking another sip. “Then do me a favor, Misty, and you try to read into things tonight.”
