He couldn’t even form the words; his shaking had increased so much he had to lean against the nearest wall to keep from falling over. His voice came in broken starts and stutters, and he finally managed to gasp out, “Cazador.”
The group exchanged looks before the githyanki woman spoke. “Dead. He deserved worse,” she said, the last bit coming out as a hiss.
His breath was coming in sharp, panicked bursts, and he sank down against the nearest wall, pulling the robe tight around him. “Not possible,” he gasped. “How?”
The woman with the silver braid answered this time. “We killed him, of course.”

Awhile back, I wrote a little piece called The Weight of Silence which explored Astarion's year-long imprisonment in the tomb and the ways he dealt - or didn't - with it.
This is the following year, exploring him working out his sudden freedom and the kindness of strangers.

Wizards are equally (and terrifyingly) competent and dangerous. Despite knowing that, Astarion has to deal with Too Many Feelings—and their consequences—after Gale is briefly out of line of sight during combat.
In which Astarion has all of the feelings in the world, doesn't know how to cope with them, and settles on sex being the answer. But Gale of Waterdeep is a smart cookie who likes talking. Sex is wonderful, yes, but talking is important.

“You're here for me,” Gale insists, still grinning. His eyes are shining.
He looks so fucking radiant, it makes Astarion want to stab something.
In which Astarion saves the day, and Waterdeep, and Gale. That last one is completely incidental, you understand. And no, he is not lying to himself, darling. That you would even suggest such a thing.
