It's been a year since Ramona left to New York. She's finally come back to Muskoka, but Oona doesn't know how to deal with that. Annie throws a welcome home party for Ramona, and everything is completely fine. Absolutely nothing goes wrong. Except, this is maybe the one time Oona wants to be exactly like her mum—blacked out and miserable.

Sully sighs from beside her, grasping one of her hands. “Either talk to her or grab a drink with me. Because what we aren’t going to do is yearn longingly while at a party. I know lesbians love to yearn—”
Oona snaps her attention to them, scoffing, “Not all of us do that, okay?” Sully gives her the look, the one that tells her she’s not fooling anyone. “That is a false stereotype, and you know it.”
Sully doesn’t let up, lips pursed. “Sure, babes, but you and Ramona are exceptional at it. Now, come on.”

New York had felt like a cover up, pasting a new school and a different bedroom and strange people over all of her damage. New York, for all its bright lights and billion streets and an endless stream of people, was not going to make the fractured feeling in her chest go away.
