The battle of Marlas comes to an end fizzling on uncertain terms when the victory Auguste earned fails to prove as decisive as he'd first thought. With his father dead and the crown unexpectedly placed upon his brow, sacrifices must be made for the greater good. Auguste cannot establish his rule and continue this pointless war at the same time - not without a high price in bodies and time and gold. Peace must be established, quickly, and it has to be the kind that lasts. Laurent will understand. Sometimes, duty and honor must take precedence over personal preference.

Summary
Damen sometimes wondered what he would do if he ever faced Laurent.
With only three years down from a seemingly endless sentence and nothing but time on his hands, it happened more often than he would have liked. What he would say, or how he might act around him. Sparing Laurent any thought to begin with was bad enough; it was only made worse by the knowledge that he would never have that answer. If there was one thing Damen could be certain of, it was that he would never see Laurent again.

While trying to make both Alex and Henry’s situation manageable, some unwelcome guests arrive to make it a bit more difficult.
Phillip learns truths he wish he never had...While all else is taking place, Zahra and Shaan prepare to be married. We see what June, Nora and Beatrice are up to while trying to keep everyone grounded as usual. It's chaotic, unnerving and also wildly exciting.
