Summary
“You’d like him, you know,” Thomas said.
“I do like him,” Aldo said automatically, twirling the stem of his wine glass, looking into its deep red like it was a scrying mirror.
“I mean as a friend. If you spent more time with him. You have a lot in common.”
“Do we use the same shampoo?” asked Aldo, raising an eyebrow. Thomas gave him a warning look but his mouth was tugging up.
“You’re both stubborn,” he said bluntly.

Cardinals like Thomas Lawrence and Aldo Bellini know all too well how slowly things move within the walls of the Vatican. But with Vincent Benítez's election cracking their world open, and the new Pope cutting away the old branches to make room for the new, both find that change is flooding in everywhere, mostly within themselves.

Bookmarker's Notes
the wine is a metaphor
"Thomas pressed in closer, and in his eagerness, his heel knocked the forgotten bottle of wine. It wobbled slightly and they broke off to see if it would tip. It wavered and then resettled on the stoop."
"Aldo thought obscurely of a half-finished bottle of wine sitting untouched on an empty doorstep in the middle of Rome. He pushed the image aside and watched it roll away, spilling its contents, intending to drink to the last drop."
“I won’t drink, but I’d be very pleased if you both did.”

Summary
Ned returns from the Tower of Joy with not only Lyanna, but the knights who'd been guarding her.
Jaime has a more complicated time navigating his fall from honor with so many knights he'd once admired still around. Especially Ser Arthur, whose presence proves particularly tricky to deal with.

Summary
So they gathered and began to talk.
And then they looked at him. "Tyrion," Jaime began, "what if you...?""That's the stupidest idea I've ever heard, don't even finish that sentence," he said.
***
The ceremony was short and quick, with a meager feast that was just as short and quick. At least the wine was good.
"And I name you Tyrion Lannister, the First of His Name, King of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm!"
***
The story where a dwarf gets a crown, the "Gendry Effect" affects all the remaining Lannisters, Margaery becomes queen, Sansa becomes the Queen, Tommen gets a childhood (and a brother) and there's talk of flowers.
Or: Tyrion kills his father. That same night, Tommen becomes free. Then everything else happens.

Summary
Alla didn’t see why the Lady Brienne had to get married. She could have named an heir: lots of old lords did it, especially in these days, after the war and the winter. It seemed such a waste of her magnificent, solitary rightness. And it seemed such a risk. This side of things had not occurred to Alla until the Lady Brienne had been brought to bed the preceding year, and her mother had shaken her head over the laundry and said that no woman should have to know both the battlefield and the birthing bed. Alla also didn’t see why the Lady Brienne had to marry him. She’d seen him, when the Lady Brienne brought him home to Tarth. She’d watched him since, training some of the older squires. She didn’t see why her lady would bind herself to a grim, greying man trailing legends of murder behind him.
