Summary
In the early days, Jason felt like an outsider. The shoes Cliff left him to fill just felt too damn big sometimes. Not only was it an impossible task, but a seemingly unwelcome one. James in particular is grieving his loss with alcohol and rage, a combination that leads to violent night terrors. But when James' armor is cracked, it allows Jason to glimpse something he didn't know was there, to see the singer in a new light. Maybe there's more to James than Jason thought.

It was hard to even leave the room when James caught his eyes and the expression behind them wasn’t something malevolent. Always when Jason would be on his way out, there would at least be a momentary flicker of something soft in James’ eyes, almost like he didn’t want him to go. But then he’d bark at Jason to get the fuck out or to get them more beer and that would be the end of it. It stung. It never stopped stinging.
