**When Roderick decides on using a spell, as a last ditch effort, to get his son back, he doesn't realize the catastrophic outcome of trying to force an entity of fantasy and reality, one with his own hopes and dreams of freedom, to conform - to create a son reborn.
AKA Roderick accidentally turns Dream into a two year old... and everything falls down from there.
