Tom liked to spend his summer afternoons at the Potters’. They were a magical household with mostly-absent parents, which meant he could practise his spellwork as he pleased. The youngest son, Albus Severus, was a soft touch—whatever Tom asked for, he was more than eager to provide it.
Today, Al’s father was home, so Tom had put aside his study plans for the afternoon. This sudden appearance did not irritate him as much as it could have. Harry Potter was the Head Auror, highly connected at the Ministry. It was only sensible for Tom to make a good impression.

Yet the higher and faster he rises within the Ministry, the more the whispers have started to abound about his Dark Arts affiliations, his unwavering alliance with the old Pureblood families, and his vehemently anti-Muggle sentiments.
Tom realizes he needs to soften his image in order to increase his public appeal.
And so, he thinks he’s found a solution in Harry Potter.
Or, at least, in convincing Harry to pretend to date him for long enough that he’s seen as someone who can work across the aisle.
