When Cressida doesn’t hear an answer, she scrunches up her nose, runs her hands down her sides and over the dress looking self-conscious, “I know it’s too much, please don’t say anything.” Cressida looks back towards the hotel where her parents are waiting on Benedict to finish their drinks, “But you know how they are, how they acted—”
“Cressida, you look,” She sounds as breathless as she feels, “heavenly.”
“Oh,” Cressida breathes and she seems shy. After a few seconds, she looks over her shoulder again and Eloise sees her parents marching over to them leisurely, drinks in hand, “You aren’t going to drive off course right?”
Eloise watches her wring her hands, takes a step closer and covers them with hers, “No.” She looks over Cressida’s shoulders, chalks up the butterflies she feels to the nerves of having to, essentially, chaperone Cressida with her parents. She looks into Cressida’s blue eyes, “It’ll be okay. Try to enjoy some of it, at least.”
Eloise smiles encouragingly at her and nods, lets go of Cressida just before her parents get there.And then she’s Eloise the excursion guide, boat driver, hotel worker and Cressida Cowper’s chaperone.
